“Colour Theory, Underpainting techniques & Advanced Contrast Paints”

A deep dive into Renaissance underpainting techniques and how to use them in miniature painting with modern tools like Contrast Paints and Inks! 

From speed and army painting to high quality display models I'll show you how and why these methods have been used for centuries by classic painters to ease, speed up and of course improve the quality of their masterpieces and how this knowledge can be easily applied to our little canvases.

The Comic Vault - 15210 West Road, Houston, TX 77095

-WHAT:

We are going to work on a cool full body 75mm figure by Mindworks: Eskaton - Deformant

It has a bunch of different materials and interesting textures to explore and on that kind of skin we can go crazy with unusual tones and schemes!

-HOW MANY participants:

Maximum 20! I want to follow each one of the students in the proper way!

-WHAT TO BRING with you:

Here’s a concise list of the stuff you’ll need for this workshop!

Mandatory:
-Basic building tools. The models will be built and primed, but you never know when you are going to need glue or a cutter ;)

-Brushes. MANY and in different shapes and sizes! Don't be the one with a single 0000 in the quiver, lol.
-A lamp!

-Wet Palette & Co. 

Recommended:

-A small selection of Acrylic paints: we want a few basic, saturated hues that we can easily mix (yep, Color Theory will be a solid block of this class). You can’t go wrong with Primary and (if you want to expand) Secondary tones ;) . 

-Inks/ContrastPaints/SpeedPaints/Products of that nature. Again, just a small selection of basic saturated tones. They are not mandatory because part of the discussion will be about what to use as an alternative.

!!! Don't bring your whole collection: there's always someone with waaaaaaay too many paints, lol !!!

-If you have it: art store Matte Medium. Any brand is fine (BUT: check below)

-Pen and paper for notes 😉.

-A hairdryer could be useful.

Optional:

-Specific strange colours/paints/handles/mediums/tools/accessories/snacks/talismans... Everything you need to be comfortable and functional!

-Your models for suggestions/review/tips/well deserved bragging!

!!! True for every point up here: if you don't have it, DON'T BUY IT!!! If you have to spend serious money on anything, wait until after the workshop, so you'll better know what and why 🙂

Plus, I'll have a ton of material with me, so don't worry too much if you forget or you cannot bring something, especially if you are travelling by plane!

We are going to have a dedicated Discord channel to break the ice before the event, stay in touch and organise all the little details.
